DO Floating Seal

Two metal seal rings interact with each other to form a contact sealing face perpendicular to the axis. As o-rings transfer pressure from housing to seal rings, allowing one metal seal ring rotates with the housing while the other remains stable. Two mechanical face seals thus are in state of relative motion.

Two relatively moving face seals create an oil film on the surface of contact band. This oil film is the key to sealing. During rotating, the mating faces form a contact band that is approximately 0.2mm (0.008") to 0.5mm (0.02") wide retaining the oil lubricant and resisting foreign material. As wearing occurs, the contact band will move inwards. However, o-ring releases elastic compensation, keeping mechanical face seals in a precise position to maintain its stability.

• Cross hatched grooves on seal contact bands ensure sufficient oil flow and heat management, enabling the seals to operate in the toughest industrial conditions. As the same time it also solve the problem that rubber oil seal cannot solve.

• Mechanical face seals get metamorphic when exposed in air for a long time. Only remove the seal package before installation. Mechanical face seals are easy to break. Handle gently and install in a dust-free condition. 
  

• We recommend the use of installation tools to ensure a proper installation of o-rings. If improperly installed, twist on o-rings might lead to uneven stress and creep down from the metal ring. Eventually cause early failure. 

• Mechanical face seals are high precision product, especially the contact band. Do not use sharp instruments and please wear gloves during assembly.  

• Floating seal need to be keep in Dark & cool Place, due to O-ring is sensitive to the temperature. Laid flat and do not crush storing. 

• Twist on o-rings might lead to uneven stress and creep down from the metal ring and eventually cause early failure. 

Floating seal cannot be used in inappropriate pressure & velocity environment. And also the lubrication use need to be pay attention. 

• Recommend temperature: -40~150 degrees Celsius

• Working liner speed: withstand to circumferential speed of up to 10 m/sec.

• Usually floating seals can accept at most 0.3MPa pressure

• It is essential to lubricate the seal at the sealing gaps, we prefer to use oil lubrication rather than grease lubrication

• The oil level need to be between the middle of the axis and the 2/3 of the inside diameter of the seal. SAE 80and SAE 90 gearbox oils are recommended to be used. 

Sharp instruments cannot be used in floating seal installation. Inappropriate assembly will  cause irreversible damage of metal ring’s sealing face. Except Square Bore mechanical face seal, floating seals need to use installation tools to avoid damage. 

Installation tool is a slotted ring, which slipped around the seal ring. The step of installation tools locates between the elastomeric ring and the land of the seal ring. Pressure is therefore applied directly to the O-ring while inserting the seal.
